I genuinely love photographing weddings, which is just as well, because I’ve shot over 100 of them! I like to capture weddings in a way that tells a story. I believe the photographs should celebrate each and every emotion of the day. This is why I like to simply observe and let the events unfold naturally, and I’ll capture them as they occur.
To me, weddings are like books – they’re days made up of different key chapters.
The first chapter is usually the happy couple getting ready, then there’s the ceremony, and after that, it’s time to celebrate! I like to portray the different feelings and emotion of each chapter.
It might start with the butterflies and anticipation the bride is feeling as she has her hair and make-up done with her bridesmaids. Then, the pure happiness and incredible atmosphere when the bride and groom walk down the aisle together for the first time as a married couple. Later on, there might be some giggles as everyone listens to the best man’s speech, and perhaps a few tears of joy as the impact of the momentous day dawns on everybody.
To me, family portraits aren’t about simply asking everyone to look at the camera and give their best smiles. Every family is different, and a portrait session is a time when the distinctive personalities, relationships and characteristics that make a family unique come together. This is why I’ll observe carefully and unobtrusively to make sure I capture these special qualities through my photographs.
I completely understand why professional family portraits are so popular – time flies by so quickly that moments and memories can be easily lost and forgotten.
It’s my aim as a photographer to capture those special times, and to provide a lasting memory of them.
These photographs will also be a lasting record of your family that future generations can look back on. Family history is so popular these days, and more and more people are looking to document their own stories and memories – what better way to do this than a precious portrait of the whole family together.
