We just loved the time we spent at Michelle and Andrew’s vintage themed wedding held at the Armadale.

Shellys Mum Christine is a cake maker supremo and her sister Lisa organises vintage themed partys (they both do many other things and are extremely talented and creative at them all!)

In fact we will post a blog about their many talents later when things have calmed down a bit here, not complaining but we have had heaps of shoots to do lately  and we do love taking photographs!

As I was packing my bags to leave after the dancing had got into full swing Christine asked me to quickly take a photograph of the bride and groom with the cake. Now this was farly well into the day and as Christine said as the bride and groom began to take handfulls of cake to smear accross each others faces it wasn’t exactly what she meant….cue FOOD FIGHT. I must admit I thought about whether I should keep shooting but I can never resist a bit of cake throwing myself so you only get to see the start!i

On Friday we were with Gayle and Nick for their small gathering and civil ceremony at The Samling hotel.

Nick and Gayle and their two children Sophie and Sam made the short trip accross the lake district from their home town of Whitehaven and the wedding party enjoyed exclusive use of the hotel.

The lake district rain came by the bucket full in the morning but luckily as I was driving up to the entrance at lunch time the sun was smiling and it became a glorious afternoon! Continue reading “Paper clips for cufflinks!” »

It began to rain heavily last Saturday as we drove north to photograph Sumi and David’s garden party wedding celebrations.

Peering through the wind screen wipers it was hard to imagine that there is a hose pipe ban in place and we are suffering the worst drought since 19something or other.

That is untill we past Thirlmere and saw how low the waters are.

We arrived a little early and  Sumi was out and about in her wellies and wedding dress putting the finishing touches to the decorations. As the guests began to arrive the Sun decided to stay behind the large grey clouds and the rain came and went and came again….

It didn’t stop any of the fun though and the only time  the kids took a break from the football was to try a bit of  cricket (well it is the summer!) and to catch up with the magicians next trick.

Oh yes and to eat a bit of cake too.

Apparantly they were still playing at sunset!

Children love weddings… The dressing up, the gathering of all their relations in one place, meeting up with cousins, being spoiled by aunts and uncles… In fact, they tend to be real party animals and spend the whole time socialising or on the dance floor !

We’ve put together a collection of our favourite photographs, taken at some of the weddings we’ve photographed, and all featuring children.

Since then, their wedding has taken place and the very happy Mr and Mrs Simpson have jetted off on honeymoon. Whilst Ed and Elise have been busy enjoying the first few days of wedded bliss, Russell has been busy at work with their photographs – editing and designing the fabulous wedding album they commissioned.

In recent years, Russell and I have both lost our Dads. In fact Russ lost his Dad, John, only this time last year. This morning we’ve been sat doing the final edit to some wedding photographs, taken last weekend, and found ourselves getting a little emotional !

One particularly lovely, yet very simple, photograph of the bride and her Father appeared on screen; love, pride, adoration, on both parts, blatantly obvious…

Wedding photographers have a huge responsibility in their hands! What they are delivering aren’t just wedding pictures, but a series of captured moments that together tell the story of a day full of love, joy and emotion.

Those moments that are caught off-guard, when a tilt of the head, a glance, a hand resting on a partner’s arm, reveal the inner feelings with more poignancy than any words ever could.

For that is the power of photography. The camera captures far more than a mere collection of beautiful images. Photographs tell many stories and freeze moments in time that would be otherwise lost forever. And in that respect, it is true. The camera doesn’t ever lie…

In an earlier post, we wrote about how important we believe it is for couples to take advantage of a pre-wedding photography shoot whenever possible. Pre-wedding shoots are often included, at no additional cost, as part of the services offered by your wedding photographer and are a great way for everybody to get to know each other.

If you take a look at the pre-wedding images we posted, you’ll hopefully see how we used the shoot to get our lovely wedding clients to relax with each other to the point where they pretty much forgot about the camera. Sure, some of your wedding pictures will, by nature, be of the slightly more formal kind and you’ll have to “pose” a little (I’m thinking especially of pictures with the in-laws here !).

But what our clients like most of all about the work we do is the natural, spontaneous and relaxed wedding pictures we create, showing the love and joy you both feel on your wedding day.
